The extreme nature of the planet to tear itself apart, to fold in on itself. For it's super massive plates to smash into each other and leave these deep rips and tears in its surface like lightning bolt ridges.

Even they succumb to time.

This ring is based on the awesome power of earthquakes and the destruction left behind on the seabed. The back and forth shifting and splitting of the plates and the rough to smooth of the sea itself wearing away and the planet on its endless slow crawl.
