Powler Pendant

£95.00

These bubbly pendants tell the tale of the classic English folk story of Peg Powler.

Peg, the powerful hag, spends her time in the Tees somewhere near Cowfold. She is a well known character who will present herself as a lady in need of saving from the torrent. If you are fool enough to leap in to her rescue then you will not notice until it's too late that her arms are slightly too long, that her hair is lank and green and that she hides a mouthful of sharp green teeth!

Her story ends with her victim being dragged below to their fate and the only trace of her being known as Pegs Suds. The froth and bubbles on the surface of the river.

This likely comes as warning of jumping in the river as its depth is deceptive. The powerful waterfalls have carved deep plunge pools where a person could easily be lost and this folk tale warns us all of the dangers of the river.

Beware the bubbles!
